Are refurbished digital cameras safe to buy?
Refurbished digital cameras are one possibility if your budget is limited and you simply want the “best” or rather “next best” on the market.
It is not given the newest camera models with more megapixels, take better pictures.
There are quite a lot of examples where the manufacturer have added extra megapixels into the more or less same camera and put a new name on it. The price is higher and you get a camera with more digital noise than the predecessor.

The number of sold digital cameras over the last year has exploded. Considering the number of sold cameras many people or families have more than one camera in their household. Of this reason the market for used digital cameras and refurbished digital cameras at camera shops is also very good, and a good bargain can be done.
Is your camera budget limited?
If you can not afford buying the camera you dream of, buying a used camera might be the solution for you. Since new cameras enter the market all the time, you will regrettably not be the lucky owner of the best of the best for very long. Prices drop quick as new models enter the market. So it might be a good bargain buying a used camera.
Cameras seldom “wear out” in the way that they will stop functioning. If they're going to fail at all, electronic devices have a tendency to fail early in their performance cycle. This means that if they have worked for several months, they’re likely to continue working for several years.
Should you risk buying a refurbished or used digital camera?
Refurbished camera is safer as in most cases these cameras have been used as demo models or have been returned of any reason from customers. The shop can not sell such a camera as new because of consumer laws. These cameras have in most cases been check by the manufacturer’s technical staff. You will probably get a limited (shorter) warranty on the refurbished camera. Practically refurbished cameras are of the latest models on the market and bought through a well known shop, normally there should be no problems.
Used camera however is a different matter as these have not been checked by the dealer before put on sale again. Most used cameras however are not sold through dealers but from individuals. Buying form individuals you will most likely not get any warranty unless specially agreed with the seller. When buying used you should be especially aware that all accessories like users manual, battery etc are included.
